Every New Old Prints edition begins with an original public domain text and builds something the text alone cannot be: a complete reading experience. Original illustrations created for that specific work. Scholarly annotations that give context to unfamiliar references without interrupting the story. Illustrated Annotated Classic Books, Built to Last

The great challenge with classic literature is not finding it — most of it is free. The challenge is reading it. An ancient poem, a Victorian novel, a Renaissance play: each arrives trailing centuries of context that modern readers simply do not have. Our illustrated annotated classic books solve that problem without turning the reading experience into a homework assignment.

Every edition includes original illustrations commissioned for that specific text — not stock images, not recycled Victorian engravings, but artwork created to match the voice and era of each work. The annotations appear where you need them: a brief note on a place name here, a translation of a phrase there, a line of historical context that makes the next three chapters make sense.

Each volume in the New Old Prints catalog is built around the same core elements:

The Catalog

The catalog is growing. You can find our complete illustrated and annotated edition of Homer’s Odyssey and Iliad — both epics in one volume in English — and the Spanish-language edition, La Odisea & La Ilíada. Our most recent release is The Complete Brontë Collection — all nine works by Charlotte, Emily, and Anne Brontë in a single volume. More editions are in development.
